yellow lines | Isamu Hazama
When I feel the need to refresh my mind or exercise my body, I regularly go into the woods, where I mow some weeds and observe plants and trees. As I was taking care of overgrown nanten trees, I noticed that the cambium layer of nanten was vividly yellow when reaped with a sickle. I had thought that nanten trees grow up straight, but each stem has its own unique way of growing: switching directions by breaking off in the midway, bending in arcs due to tangled ivy, and undulating to avoid an obstacle. I drew, or traced, yellow lines with a knife by scraping off the surface of one side. Before the bright yellow color was lost, I captured them in photographs and fixed them as prints.
