in memory of hinoki | Isamu Hazama
A carefully nurtured hinoki forest was cut down in 2023 due to a landslide, and the local people kindly gave the logs to me. In this region, the forestry industry is becoming unmanageable due to decreasing population and its industrial structure, and more and more mountains are being left unmanaged and abandoned. This hinoki cypress, planted with hope, met a sad end in the form of a landslide. I felt that something memorial should be created. I decided to keep the shape of the tree itself and combine it with a book shape, suitable for telling a story.
